It wouldn’t be going too far to say that we were stunned by the changes that have been made to the Woy Woy Hotel since we were last there. Internally, it’s an entirely different place with an extensive outdoor dining area replacing the car park. And they did a very good job with the renovations. The food was good and, as an indicator of our aging demographic, the $15 seniors’ lunch proved most popular. Drink prices were at the top end of the range but they have to pay for the renovations somehow. It was a most enjoyable gathering (aren’t they all?) made special by Athol being able to attend – and many thanks to Rob McPherson for making that possible. Two regular attendees – Nev Bayliss & John Salamonsen – were missing (on the “sick list”) and it is hoped they have a speedy recovery.
What a day! Firstly, Athol is picked up by Nev Bayliss in nothing less than a stretch limo ... ... and, after collecting a few hitchhikers along the way, he is greeted at Magpies (Leagues Club) Waitara. And the celebrations didn't end there - Geoff Street was welcomed into the 75ers club. It was a most enjoyable gathering. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. NB: Although in attendance, John Salamonsen missed being in the group photo. Sorry JAS.
It was standing room only in the Chapel at Lourdes Retirement Village, Killara when family, friends and former work colleagues gathered on February 27 th to farewell John Charles Barker, and to celebrate his life. At home, and surrounded by his loving family, John lost his battle with lymphoma on February 4 th – just 14 days after his 88 th birthday. Many will remember John from his role as AGC’s Chief Internal Auditor – a role he performed with a lot of understanding and positivity. He sought to overcome problems rather than just discover and report on them. For this he was much admired. A keen supporter of The 1925 Club, John was great to have a chat with, and there was hardly a subject or activity in which he didn’t show an interest. And he often approached you with a wry smile that told you that something interesting and/or amusing was about to be shared. Rest in peace dear friend, you will be missed.
